After four years in business, Justin Warner and his team have decided to close Do or Dine at 1108 Bedford Avenue. Yesterday a message was posted to the restaurant's homepage that reads: "Do or Dine will be closed for the foreseeable future. We are very sorry to disappoint those who were planning to dine." And the team also offers a note on Facebook: "Dreams > $. That's the long story short. Sorry again folks. We'll say more when we can. Right now it's just a bit tenuous." Just this last weekend, Justin Warner won $16,000 for the Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger by competing on Guy's Grocery Games. The chef is also gearing up to release a cookbook called The Laws of Cooking: And How to Break Them.
Although the restaurant never got the big review treatment from the New York Times or New York Magazine, Do or Dine landed on the Michelin's Bib Gourmand list shortly after it opened, and it received generally favorable buzz on the blogs. Last year, the restaurant launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to winterize its back yard.
