Earlier this week, the team at Court Street Grocers packed up all of its sandwich making equipment at Gotham West Market to concentrate on their new Greenwich Village project. Their counter area won't remain empty for long. Tomorrow, a pop-up outpost of Evelyn's Kitchen, a Harlem-based cafe/bakery and catering company will open in the space serving "pudgies" (essentially soft, chewy cookies) in flavors like banana pudding and coconut cream pie. Argentinian alfajores made with salted dulce de leche and carrot cake sliders are also on the sweets menu. The kiosk will be the market's first dedicated bakery, and it's slated to operate through the end of the summer, and possibly longer.
The market has seen some turbulence since opening less than two years ago, with the departure of the Brooklyn Kitchen, Little Chef from the Saltie team, Jeni's Ice Cream pop-up, and now Court Street.
