Popular beer spot Milk & Hops, which doubles as a specialty shop and a bar near Union Square, is expanding with a flagship shop in Chelsea this fall. Owner Yang Gao, who also operates Astoria Bier and Cheese, says that if the new shop goes well, there may be more beer and cheese projects in the work around town. The new location is bigger than the original, meaning Gao will have room to sell more than 300 varieties of beer he already carries, plus cheeses and cured meats to go. At the bar, expect a familiar lineup of cheese, charcuterie, and sandwiches — paired with lots of different beers on tap, of course. The team is shooting to open by November 1.
