Inside Tempura Matsui, a Serene Temple to Fried Foods on East 39th Street

Take a look around NYC's first tempura omakase restaurant.

Here is a glimpse at the stylish Tempura Matsui, the latest restaurant from America Ootoya, the US branch of a Japanese restaurant company that also runs Ootoya here in NYC and more than 300 restaurants in Japan. Tempura Matsui serves a $200 per head tempura omakase menu crafted by fry master Masao Matsui, a veteran chef/owner of several tempura restaurant in Tokyo, Japan. The main dining room has 19 seats split between a sit down bar and booth seating. The space also has a small dining room available for private bookings, plus a small bar offering beer, sake, and wine. Tempura Matsui offers two nightly seatings in the main dining room, which are available via OpenTable.
