EAST VILLAGE — Adolfo Toro, who is from Colombia, just opened a Latin fusion restaurant called Secara with his cousin, notes Bedford + Bowery. There are empanadas, arepas, ceviche, and ropa vieja on the menu. Status: Certified open. 234 East 4th Street, 917-475-1892.

JACKSON HEIGHTS — Thai chef Palm Tangjantuk was working at Sea in Williamsburg but spending lots of his time making sushi for his friends at home. He finally made that his full-time gig over July 4th weekend when he opened Zabb Sake Bar beneath Michelin-starred Thai restaurant Zabb Elee. The restaurants aren't exactly related but they're like a "brotherhood," Tangjantuk tells DNAinfo. He's serving izakaya fare and sushi, along with sake, of course. Status: Soft open. 71-28 Roosevelt Avenue.

ASTORIA — A very art deco style coffee house called Gossip Coffee is now serving 10 cold brew coffees and 10 iced teas on tap, says Flo Fab. There are also yeast doughnuts in creative flavors like Guinness glazed. There's also a seriously lovely backyard. Status: Certified open. 37-04 30th Avenue, 718-440-8792.

FLATIRON — There's now a second location of informal Asian spot Chop Shop called Chop Shop II, says Flo Fab. Expect summer rolls, salmon tartare, and pork belly buns. The team is still waiting for its gas hook-up, so there's a limited menu for the moment. Status: Soft open. 41 West 24th Street, 646-964-5672.

EAST VILLAGE — Japanese crepe shop T-swirl Crepe is making crepes stuffed with elaborate fillings like matcha and azuki bean, and fruit cocktail. Status: Certified open. 247 East 14th Street.

EAST VILLAGE — The slightly strangely named Kavasutra bar is now serving drinks made from kava root from the South Pacific. The bar is actually a chain that's come up north from Florida, says EV Grieve. Status: Certified open. 261 East 10th Street.
