Fort Greene's 12-year-old neighborhood wine bar and restaurant Stonehome closed after dinner last night. Co-owner Rose Hermann posted a farewell and thank you note on Facebook from her and her husband Bill Stenejem saying: "After 31 years in Fort Greene Bill and I have relocated to the Hudson Valley to start the next chapter in our lives." Fans and neighbors wished them well with comments like:
Site of my first date with the woman I love and married. It's also where we decided to have dinner the night we got married. Such a part of my most cherished memories and an interwoven part of the life I've built in Ft. Green. It's with deep sadness that I learn of Stonehome's closing...
It's been a tough couple of weeks for South Brooklyn drinking institutions. Park Slope-based beer haven Bierkraft, which opened just a year before Stonehome, shuttered abruptly this month, leaving no explanation behind. In an email to the staff that DNAinfo got a hold of, the owners said simply that the shop is closed for good and "YOU ARE FREE!"
At least one fan left a token of appreciation and mourning in the form of a growler outside the shop and bar:

Another tweeted:
