Batard Chef Markus Glocker May Be Looking to Open Casual Restaurant in Midtown [Update]

He wants to "play with more vegetables."

Markus Glocker, who earned three stars from the Times as chef at Drew Nieporent's fine dining Tribeca restaurant Batard, is looking to open a more relaxed restaurant. Eater caught up with the chef at the Citymeals-on-Wheels 30th Annual Rockefeller Center Chef's Tribute Monday night, where the Austrian-born chef revealed, "I love fine dining; I've been doing it since I was 15, but I would like to play with more vegetables. I like food that is a little humble and it's not easier to do casual food; you actually really have to prove yourself. I'm looking for a healthy, cozy vibe and we have looked at a few properties.'' Glocker says he loves his Tribeca neighborhood, but has been looking at sites farther north for the new place. "Some restaurants have moved out of Midtown, so there are spaces coming available,'' he said.

Update: On his end, Nieporent denies that there are any concrete plans to open a new restaurant at this time. So it may be a while before we see anything come of this.
