Cabbie and cheap eats haven Punjabi Grocery & Deli is slowly but surely winning the battle for its taxi relief stand, reports Bowery Boogie. A month after Community Board 3 voted unanimously for a cab stand, a temporary one has been installed nearby on the corner of Avenue A and 2nd Street. The stand is only open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., not 24 hours a day as Punjabi had hoped for. The ultimate goal, a 24 hour stand in front of the store, is still at least a few months away, held up by the long overdue completion of street work along Houston.
