Bayna El-Amin tells a very different version of the story.

The story of the alleged homophobic incident on Cinco de Mayo at Dallas BBQ continues to unravel. Initially, Jonathan Snipes and his boyfriend Ethan York-Adams claimed that another diner, Bayna El-Amin, called them "white f-----s" and hit them with a chair after they accidentally spilled a glass of water while getting up from their table. Since then, there have been theories posed that the brawl was racially motivated. Now, El-Amin, who is gay, is telling queer blogger Waddie Grant Jr. at G-List that "I was the victim. People don't realize that. People don't know that." He also claims that he's been unfairly treated by the press.

In his account of the story, York-Adams and Snipes never spilled a glass of water but got into a fight near a table where a few women were seated. El-Amin says he shouted:

'Hey, guys! There are ladies here'.... Snipes...walked towards me and said, ‘And YOU calling us ladies!' And, he struck me. He struck me in the head with an object. I'm not sure what it was, but it felt like a heavy blunt object — and it hurt....I knew that I needed to react quickly because I was afraid that if I didn't that I would be hit again. Or, someone else at my table would have been hit. So, I immediately went at him.

In reading this, note that Grant has been a supporter of El-Amin even before the interview. The police are still searching for El-Amin, whom they call a "career criminal," who has been arrested 18 times.
