Meatball Shop's Michael Chernow Unleashing His Fresh Fish Spot Seamore's on Monday

New, 1 comment

There's lots of fish and dessert from OddFellows.

Meatball Shop co-owner Michael Chernow will start serving dinner at his airy fish-focused restaurant Seamore's in Nolita on Monday. It's all about the fish here: it's all locally sourced and there's a big focus on less popular/more sustainable creatures from the sea. For those who need a hand picking their catch, one wall's painted with a fish diagram to help. There's seating for 70, but it looks like much of that is communal, so be prepared to get to know your neighbors or come with a big party.

The Menu: Offerings are divided into sections like big fish tacos, salads, for the crew (their way of saying shared plates), and the reel deal (pick your fish, pick your sauce from a list that include harissa cashew, miso brown butter, etc., pick your veggie). Expect spicy squid tacos with kale, apple, cotija cheese and corn nuts, a crispy skate sandwich, and Hawaiian poke with peanuts, avocado, and ponzu, a dish that Pete Wells worried just this week that New Yorkers can't pronounce (note Pete's guide: poke rhymes with O.K., not Coke).

Dessert in the form of vegan coconut kaffir lime soft serve topped with granola comes from OddFellows — which is also planning to provide ice cream for Dewey Dufresne's upcoming sandwich shop BYGGYZ. Some of the drinks have predictably kitschy names like "shore thing" (vodka, nectarines, sage, lime and yellow chartreuse) and the "swipe right mojito" (rum, mint, blackberries, agave), but there are also aguas frescas in flavors like watermelon and cucumber mint that can be made boozy upon request.
