After 21 years downtown, much-loved brunch and breakfast spot Kitchenette Tribeca will serve its last plate of biscuits and strawberry butter on Sunday. Co-owner Lisa Hall tells Eater: "Our lease is coming up and rents are just becoming way too much." The sweet 1950s-style diner and bakery moved around a couple of times over the years within the neighborhood, but Hall says she won't be looking for another space downtown. The news stings perhaps a bit extra since Jeff Gordinier pointed out the far downtown restaurant boom just yesterday.
Thankfully, the High Falls Kitchenette is safe, and Hall and business partner Ann Nickinson just resigned the lease for their location near Columbia, so those towering cakes and plates of comfort food will still be around.
