Bayna-Lehkiem El-Amin, who hit two gay men over the head with a chair while allegedly calling them "white f----ts at Dallas BBQ's Chelsea outpost on Cinco de Mayo, has turned himself in. El-Amin was charged with two counts of felony assault and two counts of attempted felony assault, according to Gothamist.
Since the incident, various different versions of the story have arisen. In the initial one, Jonathan Snipes and his boyfriend Ethan York-Adams allegedly spilled a drink while leaving their table, prompting El-Amin to say "White f----ts, spilling drinks." Snipes responded: "What did you say about us?" The incident escalated into a physically fight quickly that resulted in El-Amin hitting York-Adams and Snipes with the chair.
A few days later, it came to light that El-Amin is himself gay and a witness alleged that the incident was racially fueled, not an act of homophobia. In the latest version of the story, El-Amin told gay activist blog G-List Society that Snipes attacked him first and that he hit him with the chair in retaliation and as a form of self defense.
El-Amin fled the state after the incident and it's unclear why he turned himself in today. Police point out that he has been arrested 18 times before. Presumably, a trial or settlement should shed some light on what precisely happened that May evening.
A witness caught part of the incident on tape.
