Back Forty Space Has a New Suitor; Two Hands Expanding to Tribeca

Seven new places in the works.


ALPHABET CITY — The former home of Back Forty has a new, still-nameless restaurant suitor that plans to serve "modern American food" in the space. Chopped winner Roxanne Spruance's name is on the liquor license application. She's also working on a restaurant called Kingsley for Nolita. 190 Avenue B. [EV Grieve]

HELL'S KITCHEN — Zhong Zhen Shi, who trained at Sushi of Gari and goes by the name Chef Seki, is opening his third location of Sushi Seki. This one will have 144 seats and offer a la carte and omakase options, including some non-traditional pieces that Seki is known for. 365 West 46th Street. [DNAinfo]

TRIBECA — Hit Aussie coffee shop Two Hands is bringing its acai bowls, avocado toasts, and flat whites to the space that had been rumored for Austrian bakery Martin Auer. 251 Church Street. [TC]

PARK SLOPE — The owner of South Slope's Bar 718 is taking over the Black Sheep Pub space, which went dark a couple of months ago. 428 Bergen Street. [Here's Park Slope]

PARK SLOPE — Pan-Asian restaurant Shamisen is being replaced by Tofu on Fifth, which will serve Szechuan fare and sushi. According to a Here's Park Slope tipster, Tofu on Seventh is closing and relocating here, but it may be under new ownership. 384 5th Avenue. [Here's Park Slope]

TRIBECA — An outpost of Boston-based mini-chain Muse Paintbar is vying for the old Telepan Local space. Think Color-Me-Mine with booze and food. 329 Greenwich Street. [TC]

FIDI — New York bakery chain Zaro's will operate two locations in the Fulton Transit Center, one a full blown shop and the other a kiosk where commuters can pick up a loaf of bread to take home. [Crain's NY]
