Last night, a gay couple celebrating Cinco de Mayo at the Chelsea outpost of Dallas BBQ was attacked by two diners. "These guys attacked us specifically because they knew we weren't their type of people," Jonathan Snipes, who was dining with his boyfriend Ethan York-Adams, told DNAinfo. Snipes was kicked during the incident which knocked a tooth loose and snapped cartilage in his ear.

The incident started when Snipes got up from the table and accidentally knocked over a drink, after receiving a text about a death in his family. Another diner nearby said "White f----ts, spilling drinks," Snipes says, adding "I don't let anyone talk to me like that. I went over there and asked, 'What did you say about us?'" The incident escalated to physical violence quickly. Snipes was kicked repeatedly while the attacker shouted: "Take that, f----t."
"At some point, the guy stops kicking me in the face. He's won," Snipes says. York-Adams helped Snipes get up and the couple started to walk away. "That's when the other dude hits him with the chair."
The attackers left the scene and as of this morning no arrests had been made in the case. According to an NYPD spokesman, there is an investigation going on but it's not being pursued by the Hate Crime Task Force. No reason was given for this decision.
Snipes and York-Adams both refused medical attention on the scene and declined a trip to the emergency room since Snipes is recently unemployed and the ambulance would have cost $1000. The couple asked friends to help circulate the video in the hopes that someone will recognize the attacker. Sarah Meyers, a friend told DNAinfo: "We want this to go viral. We need to find him. My friend could have been killed."
