Hotly Debated Artisan Egg Shop BEC May Be Expanding in NYC and Beyond

Sorry, Pete Wells.

BEC, the artisan egg sandwich shop that prompted Pete Wells to pen a lengthy defense of the bodega bacon, egg, and cheese, may be expanding. Sorry, Pete. Owner Jessica Bologna (yes, that's her real last name) tells the Village Voice that: "This concept can be great in major cities, college towns, airports, I think the sky is the limit...It's just figuring out the model here first."

Despite the heated debates online, Bologna was faced with block-long lines of people waiting for sandwiches like the godmother (prosciutto, salami, mozzarella, baby arugula, walnut pesto) when she opened. She's still working on things in Chelsea, like adding beer and wine, expanding hours, and debuting delivery soon, which might come in handy for mornings when even the bodega around the corner is just too far. No word on where the next outpost will land but, according to the Voice, another NYC location is already "a possibility."
