Danny Meyer may be opening a giant food hall at Hudson Yards, on 30th Street and 10th Avenue, just near the High Line and the West Side headquarters of his Union Square Events company. The king of hospitality is close to signing a deal on 40,000-square-foot space at 10 Hudson Yards, reports Crain's NY, which shouldn't be too surprising. In early 2012, mega-developer Related Inc., which is behind Hudson Yards, took a partnership stake in Union Square Events and announced that it planned to work with Meyer on the dining options here. Union Square Events, the deal said, would be responsible for providing eateries for the 1 million square food retails space, as well as catering events, and creating dining spaces for tenants, so it sounds like this is the first step towards a concrete plan for some of those venues.
Just two weeks ago news dropped that Thomas Keller is also working on a restaurant at Hudson Yards, and hand-picking 11 other food vendors for the complex. Crain's also reports there are rumors of a deal with José Andrés. When all of these places open (likely not for a while) they could offer Anthony Bourdain's pending market just a couple miles south along the Hudson some major competition.
