Baccarat Hotel's Grand Salon Trashes Its Coyote Fur Chairs After Animal Lover Outcry

Steve Cuozzo says the move "will spare lounge-goers' sore butts."

The Baccarat Hotel's Grand Salon is tossing its 12 pricey coyote fur covered chairs after Steve Cuozzo whined about them (and the sky-high prices) in his review last week:

The shaggy chairs along the windows of the Baccarat Hotel's second-floor Grand Salon looked creepily familiar."Coyote," the house confirmed. Yes! The beasts now roaming our streets from the Battery to La Guardia Airport have extended their range to the new hotel...The slaughtered specimens are rough on your butt — the seats are rock-hard beneath the fur.

The review led to unhappy letters from animals lovers, like one who wrote: "Coyotes are shy, loyal, misunderstood animals . . .Murdering them for style and comfort is . . . obscene." In the words of Cuozzo today: "It's too late for the slaughtered beasts, but at least it will spare lounge-goers' sore butts from chairs less comfy than they look." There's no word on where the chairs will find their final resting spot, but they will soon be replaced in the Grand Salon with linen chairs.
