Cabbie hangout and cheap eats destination Punjabi Deli has been fighting to stay open for the past five years, ever since the city started construction outside its door. The blockades have kept cabbies from finding parking and more broadly hurt the shop's business. Now, with the threat of closure looming, more than 3,500 fans signed a petition in support of the business, and tonight a group of supporters is going before the community board's transportation committee to push for a tax relief stand outside of Punjabi. Ahead of that meeting, the Tribeca Film festival released a short video today about the shop and its struggles in recent years, as well as the people fighting to save it. Check it out:
Inside the shop, the owners have posted a note about their trials and the meeting tonight.
