The Hummus Masters at Mimi's Are Growing Up With Two Manhattan Outposts

The hummus shops should land this summer.

For six years, Mimi's Hummus has been hiding out in Ditmas Park, quietly serving some of the city's best hummus and shakshuka. This summer, owners Avi Shuker and Mimi Kitani will take a big leap across the East River and open two Manhattan outposts, one in UrbanSpace's forthcoming Vanderbilt food hall near Grand Central and another solo restaurant on East 14th Street.

The team says the UrbanSpace project will be more of a pop-up style restaurant with a condensed menu (likely hummus with various toppings and possibly some other options like sandwiches to go). Downtown, will be a more full fledged menu like the original, which means hummus, sandwiches, salads and a few larger plates at dinner like lemon chicken meatballs, brisket, and the Middle Eastern rice and lentil dish mejadara. Construction is just getting underway downtown, so the opening is atleast a little while off, but in the meantime, the crew is still running the restaurant in Ditmas Park and is currently in-residence at Threes Brewing in Gowanus.
