Jim Carden and Kevin Avanzato, the music hall mavens behind Union Hall and The Bell House, are opening a still-untitled gastropub in the former Ceol space on Smith Street. This time they're not opening a live music venue, but rather a food-focused bar with a menu of fancy sandwiches and house-cured meats. The 54-seat space is on the small side, but includes a small outdoor space that will probably do well in the summer. The bar plans to open daily from noon to 4 a.m., with the kitchen closing at midnight. Community Board 6 voted to approve the application, but it's not a sure thing yet—they still have to win over the full board at a meeting on May 13.
