Since February, cocktail pro Julie Reiner has been at work on a new "pan-Latin" bar and restaurant not far from her Cobble Hill drinking institution Clover Club. Originally, she and business partner Susan Fedroff called the restaurant Sagrada BK, but now, according to a recent release, it has been rechristened Leyenda, and is slated to open mid-May.
The cocktail menu is being developed by another expert mixologist and longtime bartender at Clover Club, Ivy Mix, who is taking charge of Leyenda with Reiner and partners backing her. The drinks center mostly on the liquors of Latin America – tequila, mezcal, rum, pisco, cachaca, etc. – and include things like a mai tai made with mezcal, and a rum drink made with macadamia nut orgeat.
As promised, the food menu comes from Sue Torres, of the now shuttered Suenos, and includes small plates like tequila shrimp arepas, goat tacos, and bean and cheese pupusas with chicharrones. Torres is just consulting here, as she is at Espoleta, the Forcella replacement on the Bowery, so don't expect to see her in the kitchen on a daily basis. But that shouldn't make a huge difference to those eating and drinking there.
The bar will have about 50 seats when it opens, plus a bar (obviously), and a good sized patio.
