Tonight chef George Mendes, of the Michelin-starred Aldea, will throw open the doors of Lupulo, his brand new Chelsea restaurant, and bring casual Portuguese fare and craft beer to to the yearning masses. The restaurant is patterned on the Portuguese taverns known as cervejarias that are popular in Lisbon. A large oval bar dominates the space, but there is still plenty of table seating flanking the tile-lined room. For those just passing by, there's also a coffee bar, and a takeout window on the side which will open in the near future. The menu is classic Portuguese, with plenty of seafood and wood fired meats cooked on a massive custom built Grillworks grill. There's also plenty of beer of course, plus wines, ports, and madeiras. Take a look at the food menu below and the handsome space in the slideshow above.
