Genuine Superette, the sibling restaurant of Gotham West Market's retro burger joint, Genuine Roadside, will start serving its casual American fare tomorrow in Little Italy. The downtown space from AvroKO (the team behind Public, Saxon + Parole and more) is a bit more sparse and fast-casual looking than uptown, but the general idea is pretty much the same. Diners place their orders at the bar, then eat at shared tables, and there's a boom box with a selection of cassettes, just like there is uptown. The space also has a downstairs bar, but that won't debut until later this spring.
The Menu: The casual Cali-inflected American menu hops around from a kale salad with peppadew peppers, avocado, cotija, and sprouts, to a fried chicken sandwich, to a sunnyside up breakfast burrito. Big-name chefs will also be contributing a regularly changing dish to the menu. First up, fish and chips from Michelin-starred chef Paul Liebrandt, which reps tell Eater is "a trial run for something else he's working on down the line." For dessert there are ice cream sandwiches from Oddfellows ice cream master Sam Mason in flavors like olive oil with balsamic caramel and strawberry jam that are pressed in brioches. Juice cocktails like a green juice with mezcal, tequila, and St. Germain come from resident AvroKO barman Eben Freeman, and diners will also be able to mix an match their non-alcoholic juice with miniature, single-serving bottles of hard liquor.
