As East Houston and everything near it continues to gentrify almost beyond recognition (things just aren't the same without Bereket), more restaurants are shuttering. This morning EV Grieve reports that Puebla Mexican Food, which has served cheap Mexican food on 1st Avenue since 1990, will close next Sunday. Owner Irma Marin decided not to renew her lease because of a rent hike and won't look to relocate the restaurant. A sign in the window says: "...thank you for 25 years of letting us serve you."
Meanwhile, across the Bowery, Asian hot-doggery Asiadog also elected not to renew its lease, after five years on Kenmare Street, notes Bowery Boogie. The sign posted in the window, however, does hint at a return at later date: "We thank you for your endless support and look forward to a bigger (yes, physically bigger) future." Meanwhile, Asiadog has a permanent kiosk at Berg'n and will continue to operate booths at the Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg.
