King Tai, a 40s-era Miami-themed bar opens in Crown Heights tonight. The bar's name pays homage to the Chinese restaurant that was once housed in that location. Decor-wise, it's got all the trappings of an island vacation, including pastel colors, chrome stools, and plenty of windows, with a view of the Bergen Street Community Garden.
For bar food, Sylvia Herbold, a local cook, is serving a rotating menu of savory hand pies—one with meat and one without. First up are chorizo sausage with caramelized onion and ricotta, basil and tomato. And as for the cocktails, they fit the 40s Miami theme, so gear up for daiquiris, piña coladas, and signature cocktails like the Palo Chino (tequila, grapefruit, honey vinegar and lime), and better yet, they're $9 each. There are also a few wines, plus beers mostly in the $3 to $5 range. The bar will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on weekdays and 4:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. on weekends.
