San Antonio chef Jesse Perez is trying his hand at a fast casual concept Oxido, which opens today in the Flatiron, right across the street from Eataly. It's a build-your-own Mexican concept, a bit like Chipotle, but slightly more artisanal, offering protein options like chicken poblano or chili lime carnitas as filling for burritos, tacos, or bowls. The menu is rounded out with grilled vegetables, beans, or basmati rice mixed with cumin, plus seven sauce options, including salsa fresca, chili de arbol, and chipotle crema. The space has a colorful mosaic and several booths for groups and a few stools for solo dining. Perez is teaming up with an ambitious partner, Daihwan Choi, who is responsible for bringing ubiquitous froyo chain Pinkberry to NYC, so we may be seeing more outlets down the line.
In the meantime, check out the menu below. Half of the proceeds from today's opening sales will to to the Food Bank for New York City.
