Could vintage Malibu be coming to the LES?

Lower East Side nightlife man Rob Shamlian has finally found a suitor for the large corner space that was The Derby, reports Bowery Boogie. The Martignetti brothers of Brinkley's and East Pole are hoping to open a second location of their Pizza Beach there. The duo opened the first Pizza Beach on the Upper East Side about six weeks ago, channeling retro Malibu with surfboards on the walls and large photos of the beach. The downtown location will presumably have a similar vibe, if it can swing a liquor license in LES Dwellers territory.

Shamlian put The Derby on the market in January and has also been trying to pass off Spitzer's Corner and Los Feliz to the team at Mezetto. Fire sales on this level usually indicate financial woes, but Shamlian maintains: "I've had enough of the hostile neighborhood groups...and the constant harassment." He's still holding on to Fat Baby, but said he'll part with it when the right offer comes along.
