California natives Nate Smith and Sophie Kamin, are hoping to bring a bit of Northern Cali to Clinton Hill with their restaurant Bar Bolinas, which opened last night. The pair, who are also behind Williamsburg's popular neighborhood restaurant Allswell, have transformed the old Maggie Brown space with a bar made from California redwood, a minimalist slightly retro design, and light that The Robs describes as "beachy." Hopefully, come summer, the restaurant's great backyard will re-open.
The Menu: Smith's menu goes heavy on vegetables and fish with dishes like grilled sepia with green butter and kohlrabi, and wild onion freekeh with Meyer lemon and cauliflower. Kamin's dessert offerings are straightforward and include a ice cream that can be served with espresso, and a strawberry fool with almonds.
