This morning right here in New York, the James Beard Foundation announced the final nominees for the 2015 James Beard Awards, narrowed down from the long list of semifinalists announced last month. Eater National has the full list of finalists (including those for the Book, Broadcast, and Journalism awards) from across the country, but here are just the New York finalists (the list of New York semifinalists is here). The winners will be announced at an Awards Gala in Chicago on Monday, May 4, and if past years are any indication, New York should make a strong showing.
Best New Restaurant: Batard, Cosme
Outstanding Chef: Michael Anthony (Gramercy Tavern)
Outstanding Bar Program: Maison Premiere
Outstanding Baker: Jim Lahey (Sullivan Street Bakery)
Outstanding Pastry Chef: Ghaya Olivera (Daniel), Christina Tosi (Momofuku)
Outstanding Restaurant: Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Momofuku Noodle Bar, Per Se, The Spotted Pig
Outstanding Service: Marea
Best Chef, New York City: Marco Canora (Hearth), Mario Carbone & Rich Torrisi (Carbone, Dirty French, Santina, Parm, ZZ's Clam Bar), Mark Ladner (Del Posto), Anita Lo (Annisa), Ignacio Mattos (Estela), Jonathan Waxman (Barbuto).
Notably, no New Yorkers were nominated in the category of Rising Star Chef or Outstanding Restaurateur. Also, almost all of the Outstanding Restaurant nominees (all but one if you include Blue Hill at Stone Barns as a New York restaurant) are New York Restaurants.
