West Village old-timer Caffe Dante has had an on again off again flirtation with The Shutter Report. Now, a note on the cafe's window confirms the closure, at least for now. The note, however, hints that the cafe may not be done quite yet:

Dear customers and community, Caffe Dante is closed. We are committed to upholding this legendary space as a neighborhood eatery, and we look forward to serving you later this spring.

As for what will become of the space, that is yet to be confirmed. A tipster told Gothamist that owner Mario Flotta sold the cafe to an Australian restaurant group that doesn't plan on changing much.
