Beloved bar and burger institution J. G. Melon is planning to open a West Village outpost in late April. An employee at the pub's Upper East home confirms that this new location will open on 89 Macdougal Street, right beneath the NYU campus. At the moment, the original 43-year-old J.G. Melon is the only one of its kind in the city, but this is not the first time it has expanded. There was an outpost on Amsterdam Avenue until 1993, plus one in Bridgehampton through the 70s and 80s.
Hopefully the bar will retain the old-timey feel, amusingly brusque service and excellent hamburgers of the of the original—minus the wait. More details to follow.
