Chefs from San Francisco's critical darling and National 38 member Bar Tartine will hop across the country early next month for a pop-up at the Wythe Hotel April 7 and 8. Cortney Burns and Nick Balla will collaborate with Reynard chef Sean Rembold a four course menu as part of the "Dinner With Friends" series that brought the Slanted Door to Brooklyn last month. Dishes are still being finalized, but two are certain: smoked potatoes with black garlic and ramp mayo, and a green chili fisherman's stew with collards and mushrooms. As Eater critic Bill Addison puts it, "Bar Tartine doubles as a food-science workshop, but the food is ambrosial rather than laboratorial."
It's unclear at the moment if owner and master baker Chad Robertson from Tartine Bakery will be joining the chefs on the trip, or if his stellar bread will be available at dinner, but stay tuned. In the words of Addison: "This is one restaurant where a $3 surcharge for country loaf feels like a steal."
Tickets just went on sale and are $146 including wine and a service charge. The four course dinner is served family-style, and starts at 7 p.m. both nights. The dinner with the Slanted Door (which was walk-in only) drew massive crowds, so expect these tickets to go fast.
