Sushi Zen, the 32-year-old pillar of Japanese food in Midtown, will move three blocks north at the end of this year, to a space over three times its current size. This is not the first time the restaurant has moved; back in 2001 it was forced out of its original home on West 46th Street when the building was demolished. This time, however, it sounds like it's just a bid for more space. The landlord, in fact, is the same: the Durst Organization. According to the Commercial Observer, Sushi Zen is Douglas Durst's favorite sushi restaurant, so the move is definitely not due to any rent hike or trouble on that front.
The move itself shouldn't take too long, since the restaurant will stay open in it's original home while construction is under way. It should be closed for just a short time at the end of the year.
