Opening Alert: Georges Forgeois Expands His French Empire With La Gauloise

Georges Forgeois, who's behind croissant Mecca Ceci Cela and Smith Street classic Bar Tabac, is expanding his mini French empire tonight with the opening La Gauloise in the West Village. Forgeois is sticking to his bistro strategy here with yellow tin walls and decorations from French flea markets that include a vintage foosball table. The place is a bit more dressed up though with its white table cloths and airy feel.

The Menu: Dinner offers traditional French fare like rabbit Provençale, sauteed frogs legs, and escargot, as well as both moules and steak frites. There's also a burger, a cote de boeuf for two with roasted vegetables and béarnaise sauce, and a daily ravioli.
