Teddy's, Williamsburg's Oldest Bar, Has a New Owner

Owners Felice and Glen Kirby will continue to live upstairs.

Foursquare

After nearly 30 years running Williamsburg's oldest bar, Teddy's, Felice Kirby and her husband Glen decided to move on, sort of. The pair sold the business last week, but will continue to own the space and live upstairs. There's no word on who the new bar owners are, but Felice told the Brooklyn Paper that they looked for someone who would honor the bar's 1880's roots: "We were very eager to find an owner-operator who would cherish what was happening here and not turn it into a luxury steakhouse or an obnoxious chain...We had some crazy offers from people, but we did not think those would be a smart move." With any luck, that means locals won't have to say goodbye to the brunch (and everything else) they know and love — a rare thing in a neighborhood where real estate is at such a premium.
