Matt Piacentini's new Greenwich Village cocktail den The Up & Up will get its feet wet early next week with some friends and family events before opening to the public Thursday, February 26. Chaim Dauermann, who worked with Piacentini back in the day at Inoteca e Liquori, will be behind the bar offering cocktails on tap, cocktail bottle service for groups and individuals, eight signature house drinks, and some half-sized cocktails, which the bar describes variously as "halfies" or "craft shots" (these should be equally appealing to lightweights and, provided money is no object, people who want to drink a lot of different cocktails). There will also be a few bottled beers, including good old Miller High Life.
Piacentini, who opened the gone-but-not-forgotten bar The Beagle and runs the much loved Clyde Common in Portland's ACE Hotel, says the bar's inspired by "the mantra high-end, low-key." The full menu is still being finalized, but here are some things drinkers can expect.
