Noted San Antonio chef Jesse Perez is getting ready to ditch the warm weather down south for a taste of New York's biting winter. His fast-casual Mexican restaurant Óxido is set to open across the street from Eataly March 3. The concept feels pretty similar to Chipotle, but Perez doesn't seem intimidated — he's teaming up with Daihwan Choi who brought Pinkberry to New York, so he has a chain expert on his side. Perez's menu offers a New Mexican beef curry, and red chile mushrooms. Fillings like these, along with chicken poblano and carnitas, get stuffed into tacos, burritos, or bowls (sound familiar?), and topped with sauces like chile de arbol, chipotle crema, and a couple of salsas.
