A Bar on a Barge Is Docking in Greenpoint This Spring

You can drink on the boat, but it won't be setting sail in the near future.

Get ready for Brooklyn Barge Bar, a new bar on a boat that could open on the Greenpoint waterfront as early as May 1st. In addition to the barge, which will hold both the bar and a handful of picnic tables, there will be between 10 to 12 picnic tables located on land, adding up to about 100 seats in total. The aptly named owner, Will Drawbridge, clarifies that while the bar is on a barge, the boat will not be setting sail any time soon: "It doesn't move, hardly at all...It just offers an incredible view of New York City, frankly."

The menu will feature simple dishes like hamburgers, sandwiches, and fries, priced anywhere from $4 to $22. And, despite the area's reputation for illegal boat parties, Drawbridge insists that he wants the space to benefit the community—he plans on eventually adding storage for kayaks and displaying work from local artists.

If everything goes according to plan with Brooklyn Barge Bar's lease and liquor license, Greenpoint residents will have a new place to drink during the summer months (May 1 through October 31) from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day.
