Brookfield Place won't be the stage for Joël Robuchon's big NYC comeback, after all. Today Steve Cuozzo reports that Saks is taking over the gargantuan space inside the shopping center where the international superstar was planning to reopen his fine dining restaurant L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon. His team has not announced another location for the restaurant yet. The new outpost of Saks will open at 225 Liberty St. in 2017.
The L'Atelier resurrection was first announced last fall. Earlier this year, Robuchon's team announced further plans to open a bakery and cafe adjacent to the fine dining restaurant. There's no word yet on why the deal fell through, and it's unclear whether Robuchon is still planning to revive L'Aterlier in New York City at this point. Eater has reached out to the Robuchon camp for more information. Stay tuned for more details on the future of L'Atelier as they become available.
UPDATE: A rep for Robuchon explains that the "restaurant will open in Fall 2016 in another New York City location, which is still under negotiations." If you hear anything about the future home of L'Atelier, let us know.
