Papaya King to Open in Downtown Brooklyn

The kingdom expands to Flatbush Avenue Extension.

Hot dog and tropical drink legend Papaya King will open a store in Downtown Brooklyn, owner Wayne Rosenbaum tells Eater. "As a native Brooklynite I am proud to bring an iconic NYC brand to the borough," Rosenbaum says. The new Papaya King will be situated on the corner of Flatbush Avenue and Nevins Street and is expected to open in early December. Papaya King pioneered the now classic pairing of hot dogs and fruit drinks back in the 1930s. Currently Papaya King operates two restaurants, the original, located on 86th Street in Manhattan, and an outpost in the East Village that opened in 2013. Additionally Papaya King operates a food truck. Rosenbaum says that the Brooklyn location will feature the same menu as the original. The East Village restaurant — which is much larger than both the original and the forthcoming Brooklyn outpost — has an expanded menu that would not be possible in limited space.
