Chef Alex Raij is taking over the Clinton Street space that currently houses Ted & Honey. Michelle "Honey" Mannix is closing her eight-year-old Cobble Hill after service on Sunday, November 29, because she wants to spend more time with her family. The space is just two doors down from La Vara, the acclaimed Moorish and Jewish-influenced Spanish restaurant that Raij runs with her husband/co-chef Eder Montero. Raij tells Eater that she's "super excited" for the new project, and she also expresses her admiration for Mannix and "the tremendous effort she has made 'keeping the corner' over the last eight years." The chef notes: "Now that we will be 'keepers of the corner' we know that's a big deal for the community and we want to honor her and that commitment." Ted & Honey is hosting a farewell party this evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Raij has not yet revealed any details about the menu at this new restaurant, or the opening date yet. In addition to La Vara, Raij and Montero also operate the Basque restaurants Txikito and El Quinto Pino in Chelsea. Their first cookbook, The Basque Book, is slated to be released in April 2016.
