After a three-year hiatus from the NYC scene, former Imperial No. 9/Surf Lodge chef Sam Talbot rolled back into town last year to helm the kitchen at The Elk on Charles Street. And now the former Top Chef contestant is planning to open a small new restaurant at 14 Bedford Avenue in Greenpoint called Pretty Southern. The cafe will serve fried chicken and baked crab rolls, along with some lighter items. The focus will be on delivery and take-out, but the space will have some seating, plus a bar with beer and wine. Talbot and his crew just signed the lease on the space, which is just a few doors down from Five Leaves. The new restaurant should open at some point in the first half of 2016.
