Eat Pizza in Pretend Secrecy at Pizza 'Speakeasy' SRO, Opening Tonight on the Bowery

You'll have to find the door inside Espoleta first.

When pizzaiolo Giulio Adriani split from his Forcella co-owners and opened the Spanish-inspired Espoleta late last year, he just couldn't let go of the pizza. Tonight, he will debut Single Room Occupancy, or SRO, his pizza "speakeasy," which took over the adjoining Slice of Naples space. The 24-seat room is now reached through a "hidden" door in Espoleta, while a sign with "No Vacancy" hangs outside to let diners know when the place is full.

The menu is a $38 prix fixe, which includes an appetizer, pizza, dessert and three beverage pairings including wine and beer. Adriani's classic margherita and fried montanara pies will be the only staples of the menu. The rest of the pizza menu will come in the form of nightly specials like the Espoleta (chorizo, shishito peppers, sun gold tomatoes, fresh mozzarella); the SRO (merguez, stracchino, caramelized onions); and the Uptown (lardo, burrata, truffle, leeks).
