The original Bedford Avenue location of Williamsburg Italian staple La Nonna Trattoria has closed up shop after nine years, reports Bedford + Bowery. A sign in the window says: "We want to thank all our loyal customers who have supported us through the years. We will miss you all." The location had apparently been struggling for a bit, and recently downgraded its menu to just thin crust pizza. The restaurant isn't disappearing entirely from the neighborhood, however. The big new Kent Avenue outpost seems to be doing fine.
The shutter leaves a vacancy on North 4th Street, at the epicenter of Williamsburg's transformation into something more like Soho than Brooklyn. With incoming neighbors like Sweetgreen, Parm, Whole Foods, the Apple Store, the long-delayed Umami Burger, McNally-Jackson, and Blue Bottle, it'll be interesting to see what takes La Nonna's place.
