Protests dubbed #BlackBrunchNYC interrupted mimosas and eggs at Maialino, Resto, and a few other restaurants this Sunday, reports Gothamist. Protestors, who are part of the #BlackLivesMatter movement that emerged after the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, spread out in dining rooms and read aloud the names of individuals killed by the NYPD. Similar protests took place in Oakland.
We interrupt your brunch time to let you know there is a war on Black lives. We will not stay silent. #BlackBrunchNYC pic.twitter.com/LeDDQeEKGB

It's not quite clear why the protestors decided to target brunch, but it appears on Twitter that similar demonstrations may be planned for next weekend too.
#ThankYouBlackBrunch for sparking a fire that is spreading. Excited to see actions in the Bay, NYC, & Baltimore this weekend.
