Former model and longtime restaurateur B. Smith has shuttered the last of her three B. Smith restaurants, on West 46th Street. Her husband, Dan Gasby said the rent had tripled over 14 years to a whopping $40,000 a month. "You go from a point where your landlord goes from being a partner to a pimp," he told Page Six, adding that when that happens, "you know what that makes you."
Smith has also been battling Alzheimer's, and went missing for 12 hours late last year. She was ultimately found in a Manhattan diner. Gasby, however, says the decision to close isn't related to his wife's illness. Smith offered a note on Gasby's Facebook page, explaining: "As a longstanding pillar in the Times Square theater community there are economic realities with rising rents that require me to make a tough but necessary business decision to close." The duo "will seek restaurant opportunities in other locations and in different formats."
