White Castle's mini but much loved Brooklyn empire is crumbling. Last fall news of the shutter of a 22-year-old Williamsburg outlet sparked a frenzy of local outrage on Twitter, with one even half-joking about holding a vigil to mourn the spot. Last year also saw the shutter of a Myrtle Avenue shop, and now Brownstoner's reporting that a Clinton Hill shop on Atlantic Avenue turned off its friers about two weeks ago. Apartments are going up at the first two properties, but no word on what's going down here. The shutter leaves just five White Castles in Brooklyn. Perhaps someone should try to register them with the Brooklyn Preservation Council.
