Within the month, Williamsburg favorite Pies 'N' Thighs will make its Manhattan debut on Canal Street. The team was originally hoping that long-awaited debut would happen this week, but as is so often the case, things are running a little bit behind. Eater stopped by this afternoon, and co-owners Sarah Sanneh and Carolyn Bane noted that they're still waiting for Con Ed to turn on the gas, and for the Health Department to come by for inspection. Plus, the space is still getting some final touches. More likely, the opening is still a couple weeks away.
But for now, here are some juicy details to tide us all over. The lunch counter is looking good:
As it turns out, most of those retro red stools are actually from the original original Pies 'N' Thighs on Kent Avenue (which closed back in 2008). There's a little more seating in the back, and clearly the whole set-up is pretty similar to the Brooklyn original:
And here's a glimpse of the sign, which should be hanging any day now:
When the new place does open, it'll have some new additions to the menu, including cauliflower gratin, a chicken and dumplings soup, and a raw collard green salad with lime vinaigrette and smoked coconut. They're also debuting a brand new sourdough doughnut, which, according to Sanneh, is the only thing of its kind in the city. Fried chicken, biscuits, pies, and all the other usuals aren't going anywhere, of course, and once things settle down some new sandwiches will also land on the menu.
