Ice cream master Nicholas Morgenstern and LA-based jamstress Jessica Koslow are teaming up for a cross country dinner series that will get started next week in NYC. The team from Koslow's hit cafe Sqirl will collaborate with El Rey on dinner service next Tuesday and Wednesday serving dishes like "chips n' dippies", plantain chips with avocado butter and caviar, pickled sardines, and boudin blanc with burt onion latkes. After supper, there will be a little stroll over to Morgenstern's for parsnip ice cream cake and chocolate chicory affogato. Tickets for the dinners are limited and go for $100 a pop, so for those who can't make it, there will be some lunch-time specials at El Rey all next week and two Sqirl-inspired flavors (sorrel with seascape strawberry and rose geranium jam, and pistachio and fennel sorbet with blood orange jam) at Morgenstern's. The pair will team up again later this year for a similar project in LA.
