Alex Raij Faces Lots of Competition for New Space

Credit

Alex Raij and Eder Montero's proposed Spanish restaurant in the old Shalom Chai space on Grand Street will have to battle three other suitors also looking to take over the place, reports The Lo-Down. Prune's chef de cuisine Ned Baldwin has also put in a bid for the space, as have the Pickle Guys, who are apparently looking for a larger location than the one they kicked Guss's out of several years ago. A kosher café is also being proposed by a lifelong Seward Park Co-op resident. All four submitted applications to the board of the Seward Park Co-op, which owns the space. Raij and Montero already have liquor license approval from the Community Board, but that decision is entirely separate from the co-op board's ruling. The co-op will likely call for a vote within a month.
